What are the differences between InterCoud and Cloud Federation?

The key distinction between the InterCloud and the federation is that the InterCloud is built on future standards and open interfaces, whereas the federation employs a vendor-specific control plane. All Clouds will have a similar concept of how applications should be delivered under InterCloud. Workloads sent to a Cloud will eventually include enough of a definition (resources, security, service level, geo-location, etc.) for the Cloud to execute the request and install the application. This will result in a pure utility model, where the specification meets all of the requirements, and the application may run "as is" on any Cloud with the resources to serve it."
